Cinnamon Lee’s lighting explores the transformative power of artificial light, its ability to enliven the presence of objects, and enhance the spaces in which they exist. She draws collectively on the fields of physics and contemporary jewellery to inform her designs, resulting in lamps that are hybrid objects. For example, her Twilight collection exploits the unique mutability of solid-state light sources in combination with carefully hand-crafted metal structures, to form intelligent, interactive illuminated objects. More sculpture than utility, Lee’s experimental light objects examine our relationship with artificial light as both subject and medium. The ornamental capacity of such objects therefore, intentionally outweighs their functional capacity. Put simply, her lamps are designed to perform as ‘jewels’ rather than as ‘tools.’
