LUX NOCTURNA was an exhibition of new works with light by Cinnamon Lee, presented by Seven Marks Gallery in June 2023.
Lee explains “the sparse, yet distinctively haunting sounds of Alex Young’s new hybrid instrument - the Slide Piano, played a pivotal role in the conception of this exhibition” and led to a unique collaboration between Lee and Young, “a kind of dance, or a sort of vision…” an experimental landscape combining their mediums of light and sound - creating the title track, so to speak.

The collaborative work ‘Lux Nocturna’, or ‘light belonging to the night’ therefore presents a new avenue for experiment in audio-visual expression, where the carefully choreographed illuminated triptych takes us on an evocative journey into the mysterious allure of night and what Lee terms “dark light”.
*The Slide Piano is a new hybrid instrument that Alex Young has created as part of his Master of Philosophy candidature at University of Wollongong. A recording of the original composition accompanied the exhibition throughout its duration and has now been recorded as a full length video work.
